Proposed fair housing rule postponed pending Council action

The Seattle Office for Civil Rights (SOCR) has postponed enforcement of a proposed rule that would require landlords and real estate businesses to post Seattle Open Housing Ordinance signs.

After posting the proposed rule for public input in February, SOCR received a number of comments and questions from property managers. Based on their input, Seattle City Council plans to introduce an amended ordinance later this month. The Seattle Office for Civil Rights hopes to post a revised proposed rule by May 1, 2005. This will give the public another opportunity to analyze the proposal and to provide further input before the amended ordinance goes into effect.
