Regional Relations
The Regional Liaison handles external relations and policy coordination on governmental issues in areas such as regional human services, transportation and economic prosperity. The liaison works with jurisdictions and agencies in the Puget Sound region. Among these are King County, the Puget Sound Regional Council and suburban cities.
- King County has three regional committees (Transit, Water Quality and Regional Policy) in which Seattle City Councilmembers serve as voting members. These regional issues specifically relate to the responsibilities of King County government.
- Seattle is a member of the Puget Sound Regional Council, (PSRC) with both the Mayor and Councilmembers serving on its boards and committees. The PSRC is a federally recognized Metropolitan Planning Organization and has oversight of a 20 year regional transportation and growth plan.
At the direction of Mayor Nickels, the regional liaison works with suburban cities to organize a King City Mayors group, which meets several times a year to discuss regional priorities and develop legislative priorities to share with the Governor, the legislature and other jurisdictions around the state.
