Environmental Management System (EMS) Program

The Seattle Parks and Recreation EMS guides and supports improvements in environmental, social and fiscal performance by:
  • identifying and prioritizing performance improvement opportunities;
  • measuring and tracking the implementation of actions;
  • coordinating activities across divisions;
  • incorporating performance goals into department, division and section work plans; and
  • reducing costs, resource use, waste generation and environmental risks/hazards.

Annual performance targets are established annually and progress toward targets are reported twice a year. Our program utilizes a nested scorecard system, as illustrated below:
