In April 2005 this new park was named "Nantes Park."
Dedication of Nantes Park
Saturday, July 9, 10 a.m.
Nantes Park, 5062 SW Admiral Way
A delegation from the city of Nantes, France, will join us to celebrate the completion and naming of this new park in West Seattle. Seattle and Nantes have had a Sister City relationship for 25 years. Representatives from Nantes are here in Seattle to celebrate this long-time friendship with us.
Nantes is Seattle's sister city on the Atlantic coast of France. The park name, endorsed by the Nantes Sister City Association, continues the tradition of naming parks after sister cities, including Tashkent Park, Beer Sheva Park and Kobe Park.
Please join Alki neighbors, the City and members of the Nantes delegation as we dedicate the newest park in West Seattle, the former Alki Substation. Seattle Parks purchased the former City Light Substation in 2003. In cooperation with the community, Parks developed the site into a beautiful in-City nook with plants to attract butterflies, a contemplative garden walk and shaded sitting stones. The Pro Parks Levy funded both the acquisition and development of this new park.
At the party on Saturday morning, we'll enjoy music from the Shango Blues Band. The band is from Nantes and will participate in Seattle Center's Festal. (You won't want to miss this group!) We'll also have some light refreshments and coffee, as well as an official ribbon cutting.
This event is free and open to the public. Please join us!
