Planning for the development of this new park at Northgate
was coordinated with the development of the new library and community

The new Northgate Park complements the nearby Thornton Creek Park #6,
as shown in the photo above. The community has been very involved in creating
paths and restoring the creek and habitat in this area.
In 2001, the Maple Leaf community nominated a nearby property at 5th NE
and NE 103rd for purchase through the Pro Parks Levy Opportunity Fund.
In July 2002, Seattle City Council approved funding towards the acquisition
of that property for a new
Maple Leaf community
garden. The property was acquired in 2003, and the garden was completed
in 2006.
