PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The University of Washington, the City and the Arboretum Foundation
are working together on three projects to implement the Arboretum
master plan. The three projects include the Japanese
Garden Entry Structure, the South Entry/Madrona Terrace Improvements
and the Irrigation Mainline Project.
The Master Plan for “Renewing the Washington Park Arboretum” was
adopted by the City and UW Regents in May 2001. The three identified
projects are being funded by the Pro Parks Levy.
Design Development
A consultant team, led by the Portico Group, has completed design
development on the Pacific Connections project. This refines the
Schematic Design completed in February 2005.
This Master Plan project will improve approximately 12 acres at
the southern entry to the Arboretum by renovating an existing rockery;
developing several eco-geographic exhibits; establishing new trails;
and constructing a 300-square-foot shelter and 30-space parking
lot.
The UW, Arboretum Foundation and Parks have identified a first phase
of construction that will begin in the summer of 2007.
Seattle Parks and Recreation, in coordination with the University
of Washington and the Arboretum Foundation, has held several public
meetings to gain input and refine designs for several propsed projects
that implement the Arboretum Master Plan.
