The design for this project has been put on hold while the City, community and the Seattle School District work through the issues related to the June 6 decision of the Seattle School Board to declare this property surplus for school needs. The school board also stated that “portions of the site(s) which are currently used as parks or playgrounds or are not currently used by the tenants should be offered for acquisition as public open space.”
On June 26 the Pro Parks Levy Oversight Committee passed the following motion regarding Crown Hill, “in order to accomplish the underlying purpose for which the property was listed in the levy, the Pro Park Levy Oversight Committee supports the city acquisition of the open space portion of Crown Hill School and supports the redirection of development funds to acquire it if absolutely necessary.”
The city has contracted with the Cascade Land Conservancy to work with the community and Small Faces, the primary tenant of Crown Hill School, to develop a plan for acquiring the site for community use.
This process is likely to continue into 2008.
