Thank you, Seattle. This project was completed in 2004.
2007 Addition
A sculptural safety barrier is being installed by Seattle artist Jenny Heishman.
The barrier will run along the curved curb on the northwest side of the
park's grand staircase. This artful addition to the park will not only enhance
the overall safety, it will also add a striking new element to the park.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
|
Several program elements were identified in the Fremont
Neighborhood Plan. They included plazas, wheel chair accessibility, and
hardscape such as retaining walls and planters to mitigate the steep slopes.
The Parks Department conducted a thorough and open design process with extensive
opportunities for community involvement.
The park is oriented to the south with good sun exposure and is well suited
to pedestrian connections between the library, commercial core and nearby
single and multi-family properties.
In 2003, this new park was named Ernst Park for a Fremont resident who was
instrumental in the implementation of the Olmsted parks plan in Seattle.
