Georgetown celebrated the opening of this new turf field on Friday, June 13, 2008 with a community kickball game - Hats vs. Boots. Mayor Greg Nickels participated by throwing in the first pitch and playing the first inning. At the opening event the Seattle Sounders conducted a soccer clinic and the community enjoyed music by Los Flacos.
Parks modified the original plans for the improvement project to include accommodation of high school baseball practice. This change includes barrier fence netting around portions of the field to protect cars and spectators from errant foul balls.

In response to a request from the community and with the support of the Superintendent, this project also completed the safety fencing at the north end of the site.

BUDGET	The Pro Parks Levy provides $1,831,687 project costs of planning, design and construction.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project converts the nearly three acres of sand/clay field surface into synthetic and natural turf. The synthetic turf portion accommodates soccer and one softball field.

The existing northeast softball backstop and fencing were removed, and the one-half-acre sand surface was converted to natural grass for drop-in community use.

COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION

Oct. 24, 2005: Parks design team presented concept field improvement plans to the community at a regularly held meeting of the Georgetown Community Council.

April 12, 2006 Parks met with the Georgetown Community Council Parks Committee to discuss the community request to allow Cleveland High School to play baseball of the field. Parks agreed to the request on the condition that barrier safety netting be installed around portions of the ballfield field.

July 24, 2006 - Final Public Meeting
The Parks design team briefed the Georgetown Community Council, and informed interested community members of the the final program elements to be included in the project given the available budget.
