Thank you, Seattle! The Golden Gardens Bathhouse Renovation is now complete!
The Bathhouse is open to the public now, with full programming underway. Try reaching Parks staff at the Bathhouse at 206.684.4031. The project reached full completion in September, 2004.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

In September 1999, Seattle’s City Council approved amendments to Seattle’s Comprehensive Plan for North Neighborhoods, including a recommendation that the Golden Gardens Bathhouse be renovated, and that effective programming be developed for its users. A 1995-96 study, funded by Neighborhood Matching Fund and the Ballard Advisory Council examined how the building could accommodate programming for teens. Other educational and community activities will also be served by the renovated building. Parks and the Project Advisory Team completed the planning and design phases of this project in 2003; construction was completed in June 2004, funded by the Pro Parks Levy Fund. Parks program areas served by the renovated Golden Gardens Bathhouse include:

Teen programs in the arts, recreation, and music.
Environmental education programs focusing on the marine and terrestial environments at the beach.
Enhanced, year-round foodservice at the Bathhouse.
New outdoor areas for both highly physical and contemplative uses.
Uses, including rental of spaces for private events, that capitalize on the regional popularity of Golden Gardens Park to make the Bathhouse a community gathering place, offering a variety of activities that engage all citizens.

COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION

Parks prepared and adopted a public involvement plan that outlined procedures for soliciting and considering public input. The Plan identified people affected, timeline, the method for soliciting and incorporating community input, and communication techniques. There were many opportunities to be involved.

Community-wide Public Meetings and Workshops - Parks held open meetings and workshops where information was shared with the general community.

Neighborhood Meetings – Parks went to neighborhood council and neighborhood plan stewardship meetings to provide updates and gather comments.
The Project Advisory Team (PAT) was part of the community oversight process.
