International District/Chinatown Community Center

The 1999 Community Center Levy provided $2.1 million for a community center and gathering space facility in the International District/Chinatown, as part of Phase II of the "Village Square" project.

Facility Overview
The new community center in the International District is located in the second phase building of the International District Village Square, at 719 8th Avenue S. The International District Village Square II (IDVS II) project developed by the Seattle Chinatown-International District Preservation and Development Authority (SCIDPDA).

IDVS II is a mixed-use, multi-story facility with family housing, a community center, branch library, office and retail spaces, and parking. The project occupies a half-block on the west side of 8th Avenue S. between S. Lane and S. Dearborn streets, formerly a surface parking lot.

Project Update (as of October 2004)
The Community Center is open; Fall programming is underway.

On September 29, 2004, Mayor Greg Nickels helped the community dedicate the International District/Chinatown Community Center, in conjunction with SCIDPDA as it celebrated a building-wide dedication and naming ceremony at the International District Village Square Two.

The grand opening celebration included local entertainment and tours of the building.

Budget
The Levy funded $2.1 million for the new Community Center. Additional funding, to complete the gymnasium, was made possible with $250,000 from the Pro Parks Levy Opportunity Fund.
