PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Friends of Cheasty Greenspace at Mountainview have submitted a Small and Simple Neighborhood Matching Fund application to build three trails from the plan and to continue design work on the other trails and the potential entrances from the street.
The project goal is to engage neighbors in a community planning process for creating a trail plan and beautified entrance to the Mountain View part of the Cheasty Greenspace. The entrance is located at the SW intersection of Columbia Way/Alaska St. and Mt. View Drive.
Another goal is to try to link the new Light Rail with the communities of Rainier Vista, Beacon Hill, Columbia City and Beacon Hill.
COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION
Community Meeting #1 04/01/10
Since 2008, volunteers have been hosting regular work parties to remove garbage, clear the ivy and blackberry and install native plants. Soon the official “Friends of” group was formed and partnered with the Green Seattle Partnership to welcome volunteers from all over the city to help restore this small urban forest.
Thanks to Dromen Digital for donating your professional services to create the poster.
The Friends met with neighborhood teenagers from ReWA to see what they thought about the forest. The teenagers felt that the Greenspace seemed unwelcoming and private.
