The Pinehurst Pocket Park was purchased in June 2004 by Seattle, Parks and Recreation using ProParks Levy Opportunity Fund and King County Conservation Futures Fund. The Pinehurst Community Council (PCC) recently received a $10,000 award from the Department of Neighborhoods to hire a landscape architect to design the park.

Construction:late 2005
Completion:2006
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The PCC envisions a quiet, easily accessible, pedestrian-oriented pocket park. The currently undeveloped lot is already visually attractive due to existing Douglas Fir trees. Initial ideas for the park include a street-side patio, benches, a covered kiosk for community information, a historic exhibit, and a short nature trail that passes around the Fir trees. Some neighbors have suggested small play structures for children. A failing fence that surrounds the lot on two sides will need to be replaced.

Fund-raising Goals
Funds will still need to be obtained for the development of the park. The PCC has already applied to the second round of the ProParks Levy for these funds. The PCC will likely also apply to the Neighborhood Matching Fund and raise local funds and in-kind donations for development.

COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION
Please call or email if you would more information or if you would like to become involved in this project.
