Special AnnouncementThis page is for development of Hubbard Homestead Park (formerly known as the Northgate Urban Center). Please see the following website for planning and design information funded through major maintenance dollars: Hubbard Homestead Major Maintenance Project |
January 2012
Some plantings and trees in the park are not thriving. Seattle Parks conferred with the design consultant and agreed the best course of action for the failing trees would be to remove the trees and replace them and other plantings in the spring. Parks is purchasing new trees at this time.
The community and the Hubbard Family dedicated the park on April 23, 2011. People enjoyed the sunshine, music, an egg hunt, jugglers and hula hooping!
Modifications to wet meadow are complete. Please see picture.
Parks is putting the 8000 foot skatespot project out to bid in early 2012. Funding for the skatespot construction comes from the savings realized due to the competitive bid Parks received for construction. The skatespot construction will be complete by late spring 2012.
Specialized Landscaping Inc., of Tacoma was awarded the construction contract for this project and construction began November 9, 2009.
Mayor Greg Nickels and the neighborhood participated in a community groundbreaking/ground chalking on Saturday, September 26, 2009.

further recommended in the Planning Commission’s Northgate Town
Center Visioning Charette and the Northgate Open Space and Pedestrian
Connections Draft Report of 2004.
In 2006, a purchase and sale agreement was negotiated with King County.
The City made an initial payment in November 2006 and will make a second
payment for the balance at closing which is estimated to be in April
2009.
This project will convert an existing 3.73 acre park and ride facility
to a new urban park. The park will provide open space to serve existing
and future residential development in the area. It will provide amenities
for low, medium and high intensity uses creating spaces and amenities
for contemplation and recreation. The new park will be connected to
and integrated into the overall fabric of the community.
