Project Status

Winter/Spring 2012
The project is one of 15 to receive funding from the Opportunity Fund. It is a continuation of a community-initiated Neighborhood Matching Fund (NMF) project. The community is working with Seattle Parks and HBB Landscape Architects to develop the design development plan including stronger trail connections, a sustained natural setting and increased usage of the park.

The design team has narrowed the scope of the work into phases. They are researching permitting requirements and integrating ADA access, path stabilization, tree preservation and maintenance concerns into the design. They will continue with the design work through this year. A portion of the work will be completed through Conservation Corps this summer and another phase will follow.

Parks is considering removing the off leash area from this park due to the difficulty in making it accessible. The steep grades and location make ADA access inordinately expensive.

We’d like to thank the community and FOLKpark for being great supporters of this park and for devoting so much of their time and energy to the improvement of it. We are moving forward with the direction outlined at the last community meeting as reflected in the notes below. The formal public input process is complete.

Project Description

The project goal is to create enhancements that improve trails and signage, restore the native vegetation and make connections to other trails in the Seattle Parks system.

This project was selected for the first round of Parks and Green Spaces Levy Opportunity Funding. The application received in this community-initiated process is a preliminary concept and the final design may be constrained by the project budget. All projects will go through Park’s public involvement procedure which includes public meetings and community input. They will also go through an internal Parks process to ensure the most effective implementation.
