VOLUNTEER EVENT!
On Earth Day, April 22, 2006, 10 a.m.- 2 p.m., Seattle Parks
is hosting a work party volunteer event to help with planting
native vegetation.

This project is part of a larger collaborative effort to restore
the Lower Duwamish River, and will focus mainly on improving its
shoreline habitat. The project is timed to coincide with projects
planned throughout April, which is Earth Month.

$40,000-50,000 including in-kind donations
This project is funded primarily through the King Conservation
Corps; People for Puget Sound and EarthCorps, and by Seattle
Parks' Neighborhood Response Fund.

| PROJECT DESCRIPTION |
Seattle Parks and Recreation has partnered
with People for Puget Sound, Green Seattle, and EarthCorps/King
County's Wastewater Treatment Division to complete the Duwamish
Waterway Park Habitat Project.
The goals of this project goals include:
- improving the shoreline and estuarine environment for salmon and
other marine life;
- providing more and improved habitat for birds;
- increasing the usage of this park by the community;
- increasing stewardship of this park within the community;
- restoring the cultural and natural elements of the Lower Duwamish
River; and
- creating a native plant refuge within an industrialized area.
