Fall 2011
The newly formed Friends of Magnolia Manor Park has started design development, “Next Steps on the Path to Magnolia Manor Park.”
Sustainable Magnolia announced the completion of schematic design, “Envisioning a Vibrant Community Gathering Place for Magnolia Manor Park.”
With the neighborhood, landscape architect Siteworkshop conducted four community feedback meetings and completed this design phase. It was funded by a $20,000 award from the Department of Neighborhood (DON) through its Small and Simple matching grant program. This will result in the first comprehensive site planning process for Magnolia Manor Park since it was created 15 years ago.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
In 1995, the Magnolia Reservoir was replaced with an underground structure as part of the SPU Reservoir Covering Program program. The reservoir is surrounded with a chain link fence and security structures. The remaining space in the approximately two acre spot is primarily lawn and walking paths.
In 2006, there was a desire on the part of dog owners in Queen Anne and Magnolia to find a site for an Off Leash Area. Through a public process conducted by Parks (see link below), Magnolia Manor was chosen as the site on Magnolia. There are funds from the 2008 Parks and Green Spaces Levy ($70,000) allocated for this use.
There is also great interest in having a P Patch at this site. Magnolia is in a gap area for P-Patches and may qualify for Parks and Green Spaces funding for this element. Sustainable Magnolia has received a Neighborhood Matching Fund award to hire a consultant and, using an open and inclusive process, start design for a park that will be used for a variety of interests and age groups by the surrounding neighbors and beyond.
