January 2009
The Friends of Ballard Corners Park have hired Dariotis Construction. They started December 11th, 2008. The first steps are to strip the sod from the planting strip, demolish the existing sidewalk and prepare the excavation for the raingarden. For up to date photos check out www.ballardcornerspark.org.

A second phase of work managed by Friends of Ballard Corners is expected to begin shortly after the completion of the Parks project. This work, funded by Department of Neigborhood Matching Fund and community contributions, will include sidewalk replacement, installation of raingardens in the street planting area, curb revisions, additionbal landscaping and artistic features within the park.

In December 2006, the Pro Parks Levy originally targeted a City Light substation site on NW 65th St for acquisition. However, the site was small, and mid-block on a busy arterial. The community supported changing the priority site for this acquisition project to property at 17th Avenue NW and 62nd Avenue NW.

In October 2005, the Pro Parks Levy Oversight Committee voted to recommend this change in scope for the project, contingent on approval by the Ballard District Council. In November 2005, the Ballard District Council also approved targeting the property at 17th and 62nd as the priority site for this project.

The targeted property is adjacent to a site acquired through the Levy's Opportunity Fund.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Pro Parks Levy included the purchase of the Ballard Park Acquisition as a Neighborhood Parks Acquisition project. A City Light Substation on NW 65th St was originally targeted for purchase through this project. However, in 2005 the community and the Pro Parks Levy Oversight Committee recommended acquisition of a property at 17th and 62nd as the priority site for this project instead of the substation.
