Thank you, Seattle. This Pro Parks Levy acquisition project is complete!

On March 15, 2007 Seattle Parks acquired a .27 acre site in the North East Queen Anne Greenbelt. In addition to preserving greenspace, the purchase of this property removes a private inholding in the greenbelt adjacent to MacLean Park. It also provides the City with control of the paved driveway easement that runs through the park.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Northeast Queen Anne Greenbelt

Property acquired in March 2007

The Northeast Queen Anne Greenbelt is the forested hillside along the eastern slope of Queen Anne Hill, just above Aurora Avenue North.

In the 1990s, Seattle Parks and Recreation acquired ten acres in the greenbelt, including several sites with panoramic views of Lake Union and the Cascades.

On November 12, 2002, the Pro Parks Levy Oversight Committee included the NE Queen Anne Greenbelt among the green spaces to be further considered for acquisition through the Pro Park Levy Green Spaces category. This Pro Parks project includes potential acquisitions to connect and extend existing green space in the Northeast Queen Anne Greenbelt.

COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION

Volunteers from the Friends of NE Queen Anne Parks, Queen Anne Community Council, Earth Corps, and other groups have created trails and restored portions of the greenbelt.

Sites:
- Taylor Ave and Newton St: MacLean Park - Mounds of blackberries and Scot's Broom have been removed from this property. Access route: From 5th Ave N on the eastern slope of Queen Anne, turn east on Newton St, and follow the steep driveway downhill near the intersection of Newton and Taylor Avenue N.
- Trolley Hill Park; 5th Ave N betweeen N Howe and Blaine Sts. A community garden and park have been developed at this site, which offers a viewpoint and trailhead to the greenbelt.
