Seattle Parks has received preliminary approval for its grant application for funding from the Washingon Wildlife and Recreation Program to purchase a .9-acre property in the Longfellow Creek watershed.
Acquisitions to date have included the following.
- A 10-acre property in the West Duwamish Greenbelt was purchased in 2001, with partial funding from this project. There was very strong community support for the acquisition, and it is among the largest properties that will be acquired through the Pro Parks Levy.
- In 2002, a 3-acre property was purchased that will preserve a portion of the wooded hillside along Delridge Way near Croft Place SW.
- In 2003, a .24-acre property was purchased in the Puget Creek watershed.
Four properties were acquired in 2005:
- Two properties along Longfellow Creek, totalling .25 acre in February.
- A .44-acre property along Longfellow Creek in March.
- A .6-acre property in the Longfellow Creek watershed in April.
- A .52-acre property along Puget Creek in May.

| PROJECT DESCRIPTION |
The Delridge Neighborhood spans a large area in West Seattle, from the West Seattle Freeway to SW Thistle Street. This area encompasses four open space systems: the West Duwamish Greenbelt, Longfellow Creek Green Space, Puget Creek Natural Area and Puget Ridge Green Space.
In the last decade, the City protected large portions of these open space systems through property acquisitions, transfers of jurisdiction and voluntary conservation. However, there are several major gaps in these systems, and a number of other properties also warrant acquisition.
- The highest priority acquisition was accomplished in 2001: a 10-acre parcel in the Pigeon Point area, adjoining the new Cooper Elementary School. This forested property fills a significant gap in the West Duwamish Greenbelt and protects a wildlife corridor. The Levy was matched with King County Conservation Futures Levy funds for this purchase.
- A 3-acre property in the Puget Ridge Green Space along Delridge was purchased in 2002 in cooperation with Delridge Neighborhoods Development Association. This acquisition preserves a portion of the wooded hillside along Delridge Way SW near Croft Place.
- In 2003, a .24 acre property was purchased in the Puget Creek watershed.
- In 2005, properties totalling 1.8 acre were purchased in the Longfellow and Puget Creek watersheds.
