This project is complete.
This community center renovation added 4,150 square feet to the existing community center. New spaces include a multipurpose room, commercial kitchen, activity room, break-out space, elevator, kiln room, new lobby and a fireplace room. Work began in April 2006, and progressed according to schedule throughout the summer. However, a concrete drivers' strike, followed by record rains and severe weather in fall and early winter extended the project schedule by several months. A summary of the public process
PROJECT DESCRIPTIONThe goal of this project was to expand and upgrade existing community center facilities to provide additional programming options.Final Schematic > View Final Schematic City Landmark nomination Seattle Parks and Recreation nominated the existing community center building as landmark in early 2005. COMMUNITY PARTICIPATIONCommunity Meetings
The firm of VIA Suzuki led two public meetings in October and December, 2004. They presented schematic design options and facilitated community comment on their designs. The final design, shown below, reflects the PAT and Community Center Advisory Council’s combined focus on an expansion which will add flexible program space to the existing community center.
