EVENTS:
In March 2006, the park was officially named the Maple Leaf Community
Garden.
A Maple Leaf community garden celebration was held on September 20,
2003. (See press release.)
The event was cosponsored by the Maple Leaf Community Council and
Seattle Parks and Recreation, and celebrated the acquisition of property
for the new community garden/park.

Thank you, Seattle. This Pro Parks Levy Opportunity Fund acquisition
project is complete!
This property was acquired on August 29, 2003.
In April 2003, a purchase and sale agreement was signed for Parks acquisition
of the property. See 4/25/03 press
release.
On July 29, 2002 Seattle City Council unanimously approved Pro Parks Levy
Opportunity Fund funding to acquire property for a new park/community garden
in the Maple Leaf neighborhood near Northgate.
In 2005, Pro Parks Levy Opportunity Funds were approved toward the development
of the park and garden.

| BUDGET |
$150,000 was approved for this project through
the Pro Parks Levy Opportunity Fund. Additional funding sources
include the King County Conservation Futures Levy, the Department
of Neighborhoods Neighborhood Matching Fund, and private donations.

| PROJECT DESCRIPTION |

In April 2003, upon learning that a purchase and sale agreement had been
signed for Parks acquisition of the property, Maple Leaf resident Barbara
Maxwell, commented:
"The community is thrilled to know that this site will be preserved as
open space...... It has been a longstanding dream since this property
was first nominated for acquisition by the Maple Leaf Community Council
in 1988."
The acquisition was completed on August 29, 2003.

| COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION |

A community event to celebrate the acquisition of property
for a new community garden/park in Maple Leaf was held on September 20,
2003. The event recognized those who contributed time, funding, energy
and expertise to make this acquisition a reality.
The community long advocated for purchase of property for a new community
garden in the Maple Leaf neighborhood. The Maple Leaf Community Council
nominated this project through the Pro Parks Levy Opportunity Fund, and
continues to raise funds toward the project.
