Nearly four acres have been acquired in four areas in the Thornton Creek watershed through this Levy acquisition project. Through partnerships with Seattle Public Utilities and matching grants from the King County Conservation Futures Tax, Seattle Parks was able to preserve more land in this watershed than was originally anticipated in the Pro Parks Levy. May 2004 - Seattle Parks purchased a .53-acre property at 1730 NE 100th St that had long been a priority for preservation. The acquisition will permanently preserve 60 feet of creek frontage and provide a connection to acres of green space in Thornton Creek Park #2. October 2003 - Seattle Parks purchased a .44-acre property along the South Branch of Thornton Creek. The site is south of the new Northgate Community Center, next to Thornton Creek Park #6 on the south side of NE 105th Street, between 5th Avenue NE and 8th Avenue NE. The property is traversed by about 140 linear feet of Thornton Creek. See press release. July 2003 - Parks purchased an 8,100 sf parcel on the south side of NE 95th St., west of 27th Ave. NE. The property is bisected by a Thornton Creek tributary. Parks had earlier purchased properties along this tributary north of 95th St. June 2002 - Seattle Parks in cooperation with Seattle Public Utilities purchased properties totaling .69 acre along Thornton Creek at NE 100th St, just west of 20th Ave NE. June 15, 2002 - A community gathering was held to celebrate the acquisition of a 2-acre property along Little Brook, a tributary of Thornton Creek, at 11715 36th Avenue NE. Seattle Parks and Seattle Public Utilities partnered to purchase the site with funding from the Pro Parks Levy, Seattle Public Utilities Drainage and Wastewater Fund, and the King County Conservation Futures Tax.
