Here's a look at the Commission's ambitious work program for the year 2000, organized categorically.

Neighborhood Plan Implementation and Stewardship
  • complete the Citizen Participation Evaluation
  • monitor the progress of plan implementation as part of a citywide team
  • sponsor the Northgate Town Center charrette
  • co-sponsor sector neighborhood plan events
Five Year Comprehensive Plan Review
  • provide input to the Strategic Planning Office on content and process
  • assist the Strategic Planning Office in public involvement
  • Review and comment on Comprehensive Plan Amendments (including revisions to the Neighborhood Planning Element and the Housing Element)
Housing
  • co-sponsor forum on Seattle Housing Authority and affordable housing
  • continue to participate in housing-related policy and program development
  • participate in developing stratagies for affordable housing development and light rail stations
Light Rail and Station Area Planning
  • continue participation on the Light Rail Review Panel (LRRP)
  • review/input on station area packages
  • work with community and City on station area plan implementation strategies, including Transit-Oriented Development
Planning Policy Issues and Initiatives
  • participate in the economic development strategy for high tech industry in the city
  • continued work on the City's urban sustainability initiative
  • advise on the City's land use code simplification work
Major Planning Projects
  • the Civic Center: provide ongoing oversight and input
  • South Lake Union
  • Great Streets/Green Streets
  • Northgate
Other Work
  • Planning Commission member serves on the Landmark Board
  • Alliance - SDC, SPC, SAC & Landmark Board
  • Planning Commission works with the Arts Board, Design Commission and the Landmarks Board on a range of initiatives
  • hold several meetings in the community throughout the year
