Technology and Training

Technology

The Seattle Police Department provides our officers with the best equipment available in the law enforcement field. Our officers also recieve the best training on how to use these tools effectively. Our goal is to test and research systems that make policing more efficient, while also keeping our officers as safe as possible.

Patrol Car Equipment - All of our patrol cars are equiped with Mobile Data Computers. The Department is currently working to outfit all of our patrol cars with video cameras, which uses the latest in digital technology to upload video instantly and wirelessly. This system can protect officers by providing an unbiased, accurate record of what happened in an event. All patrol cars are also outfitted with AED devices to enable first responders to provide immediate care in the event of a heartattack.

Less Lethal Weapons - Less lethal weapons, such as Tasers and Bean Bag rounds give officers additional options during an escalating situation. SPD is leading the way in the nation on the research, deployment, training and analysis on less lethal weapons.

Training Program

The Seattle Police Department has one of the best regarded training programs in the country. Training continues throughout your career at SPD to keep your skills sharp throughout your career. One example is the "Street Skills" program which is a mandatory refresher course that focuses on "high risk/low frequency" events, so you will always know the latest techniques and best practices for the rarest type of situation you may encounter.
