Each Police Precinct has a dedicated Crime Prevention Coordinator. Contact your Crime Prevention Coordinator to:

• Set up a Block Watch meeting for your block.
• Talk about ongoing crime problems and work to resolve the crime on your block.
• Set up a "Block Tour" so everyone understands the problems on your block.
• Register with your coordinator to get involved in the August Night Out Program.

“Night Out” is a national Crime Prevention event. It is designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, increase neighborhood support in anti-crime efforts, and unite our communities. It is a great chance to learn about crime prevention, while also celebrating your community and spending time with your neighbors.

CRIME TIPS FROM YOUR COORDINATOR

On Tuesday, Feb. 12th at approximately 2:30 in the afternoon, Seattle Police Officers responded to a burglary in progress in the 1600 block of 3rd Avenue West called in by a neighbor.  As officers arrived, the suspect fled.  A Police Dog was called in from home and the suspect was eventually located in the 600 block of 4th Avenue West.  Witnesses identified him as the burglary suspect.  The West Precinct’s Burglary and Theft Unit sent Detectives and the Sergeant to the scene for processing.  Stolen property was found that belonged to another victim who loves in the 400 block of West Prospect.  Officers responded to that location and determined a burglary had very recently occurred there, too.  Officers were then called to the 200 block of West McGraw for yet another burglary and processed the scene.  The suspect admitted to having committed the three burglaries and was booked into King County Jail with charges pending for the multiple burglaries.
The three crimes occurred in approximately 90 minutes of each other.  He is a chronic burglar with over 30 years experience in committing this type of crime.
In his statement to the Burglary detective, he stated that he likes Queen Anne Hill because he feels “comfortable” there.  He has since led Detectives to other burglaries he committed in the North and East Precincts as well as others in the West Precinct.    

Crime Prevention Reminder:

The majority of residential burglaries occur between the hours of 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.  Please use the locks that you have, and lock up your doors and windows. We ask that you report any suspicious activity to 9-1-1 such as individuals paying close attention to homes on your block, anyone unknown to you coming onto your property or going around to side/backyards of homes and anyone trying door handles or peering into vehicles parked on the street.  Strongly consider keeping blinds/drapes drawn while you are away if your computers and other electronics are easily seen from the street.  Keep your front porch lights on from dusk until dawn, and consider using timers for certain interior lights.  Keep an inventory list of model & serial numbers, and other descriptions of your valuables should they be stolen.  This facilitates their return to you if recovered.
