LEARN ABOUT CRIME PREVENTION

Each Police Precinct has a dedicated Crime Prevention Coordinator. Contact your Crime Prevention Coordinator to:

  • Set up a Block Watch meeting for your block.
  • Talk about ongoing crime problems and work to resolve the crime on your block.
  • Set up a "Block Tour" so everyone understands the problems on your block.
  • Register with your coordinator to get involved in the August Night Out Program.

UPCOMING EVENT: NIGHT OUT IS AUGUST 5, 2008

Nightout Logo“Night Out” is a national Crime Prevention event. It is designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, increase neighborhood support in anti-crime efforts, and unite our communities. It is a great chance to learn about crime prevention, while also celebrating your community and spending time with your neighbors.

MEET YOUR NEW CRIME PREVENTION COORDINATOR

We are pleased to announce Michael Yasutake as the new Crime Prevention Coordinator for the Seattle Police Department's East Precinct. Michael recently came over from Seattle Parks and Recreation having worked as a Center Coordinator at Garfield, Montlake and most recently at Ballard Community Center.

Michael is no stranger to Crime Prevention or to the East Precinct. He worked as a Crime Prevention Coordinator from 1995- 2002 in both the High Point Garden Community and extensively in the East Precinct. He also grew up in the East Precinct, attending elementary school at both Bailey Gatzert and Colman then on to Washington Junior High School and graduating Garfield High School. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from the University of Washington.

Michael's ties to the East Precinct are further strengthened through his volunteer efforts. Michael was a little league football coach for the Central Area Youth Association (CAYA) for over 27 years, worked at the East Madison YMCA and was also the Branch Executive Director for the Rotary Boys and Girls Club.

He brings a wealth of knowledge with him about the East Precinct and has experience in community organization, home security surveys, CPTED analysis, personal safety as well as special events and community based projects. Michael says he is elated to have the opportunity to work again for SPD and in the community where he grew up and where he has developed so many lasting relationships.
