WHAT IS THE MAJOR CRIMES TASKFORCE? The Major Crimes Taskforce is made up of several detectives who are responsible for identifying and apprehending offenders who are committing multiple crimes. The taskforce began in 2003 to address the problem of auto thefts. When they began investigating, detectives found that a small number of people were responsible for the vast majority of crimes associated with Auto Thefts. Ancillary crimes such as car prowls, identity theft, fraud, and for some, violent crimes tend to be committed by the same small number of offenders. The Taskforce uses a unique approach to addressing how these crimes were investigated by targeting the most prolific of these offenders. The approach has been very successful and made an incredible impact on the Auto Theft rate, as well as the ancillary crimes associated with auto theft in Seattle. |
