The Seattle Police Department has made a commitment to working with local neighborhoods to combat ongoing crime problems and increase safety.

Alki
Neighborhood worked with SW Precinct to re-structure safety plans for summer activities in dealing more effectively with the chronic civility problems. The plans focused on concerns identified by the community and improved police staffing that required less than 800 hours of additional time, compared to over 1,100 hours required in 2005. The Precinct was applauded for their efforts in making Alki a safer place to live.

Cal Anderson Park
Held first annual Cal Anderson Park Picnic, as the community is now feeling safer. Much of the success can be attributed to crime reduction emphasis and transient population management measures of East Precinct.

Chinatown/International District
Neighborhood worked with West Precinct to improve raising awareness of public safety among residents and businesses and held a successful crime prevention event at Hing Hay Park, which is a first of its kind in the community.

Central District
In discussion efforts with East Precinct and Deano’s Night Club (now the Club Chocolate City), the owners have agreed to surrender their liquor license March 2007.

Greenwood Aurora Involved Neighbors (GAIN)
Partnership with GAIN have made significant impacts in just one year, as this area is no longer included in a top-10 list of narcotic beats.

Green Lake
Neighborhood worked successfully with North Precinct and City Attorney’s Office to fight against a drug house in their neighborhood.

Jackson Place
East Precinct conducted community meetings to bring citizens together and help address gentrification, racial conflict and intimidation issues. The King County Sheriff’s Metro Transit Security also helped establish a greater sense of neighborhood security. A community that once was experiencing neighborhood violence, now holds meetings and potlucks together.

Seward Park
Because of the illegal and gang activities at the Lake Washington Apartments, South Precinct worked closely with its management, Mayor’s Office, City Attorney’s Office, and community members to resolve issues. While there is still work to be done, calls for police service and illegal activities have been reduced.

South Park
Neighborhood worked with SW Precinct on improving youth gang violence. The Precinct also worked with the neighborhood and other City Departments in developing the South Park Action Agenda.

University District
North Precinct continues to work closely with the University of Washington Police Department and members of the community, which has resulted in rapid information sharing and enhanced public safety in the neighborhood.
