Seattle Weed & Seed Program HISTORY of SOUTHEAST SITE The Southeast Seattle Weed & Seed site was awarded Official Recognition in 1997. In 2003, the site’s boundaries were changed significantly, and it received approval for an additional five years of funding. Ongoing Weed & Seed operations has been on strengthening relationships between law enforcement and community members, increasing police presence in crime hotspots jointly identified by the community and police, reducing effects of crime for residents (especially minors), and on strengthening partnerships with federal, state, and other local law enforcement partners. ABOUT THE SITE Weed & Seed has forged numerous partnerships within the site to ensure long-term improvement of this area, including collaborations with the Rainier Beach Merchants Association, South Seattle Crime Prevention Council, Rainier Beach Coalition for Community Empowerment, Rainier & Othello Safety Association, Seattle Neighborhood Group, and Washington Insurance Council. The Southeast Seattle site will become a graduated site in 2010 and continue to implement components of the Weed & Seed Strategy, without the benefit of federal funding. CONTACTS Law Enforcement: Lt.
