2001 Mardi Gras Event ABOUT THE MARDI GRAS EVENT The SPD After Action Report on the 2001 Mardi Gras celebration describes the Department's conduct of event-related operations in Seattle's Pioneer Square neighborhood between February 23 and February 28, 2001. The report provides a chronology of events as well as lessons learned for future operations. The report was released at a Mayoral press conference on August 1, 2001. In addition to the After Action Report, the site also includes a map of the Pioneer Square area as well as a summary of a multi-agency summit meeting on Mardi Gras 2001. This meeting, which brought together law enforcement officials from other large cities that experienced problems with this year's Mardi Gras celebrations, documents the national scope of Mardi Gras violence as well as police efforts to find effective tactics for dealing with these situations.
