THE TRAFFIC UNIT It is the mission of the Seattle Police Traffic Unit to promote expeditious traffic flow that enhances traffic safety for all residents of, and visitors to, the City of Seattle through vigorous enforcement of city and state traffic laws. The Traffic Unit functions include traffic law enforcement; collision prevention and investigation; impaired driver enforcement; traffic control at civic functions, sporting events, processions, parades and for visiting dignitaries; responding to high priority patrol calls when available; community traffic complaint investigations; and community functions such as speaking to driver education classes, promoting the use of vehicle child restraints, and other traffic related training. THE A.M. AND P.M. ENFORCEMENT SQUAD The AM Enforcement Squad shift hours are 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday-Friday and the The PM Enforcement Squad shift hours are 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday-Friday. The primary emphasis of these teams is traffic violations that occur in school zones, and on pedestrian safety. These officers patrol school zones during egress times, and handle traffic problems throughout the city while classes are in session.
