Introduction to Public Art

A free artist training workshop will be held on October 17, 1998 from 9 am to 5 pm at the Rainier Community Center located at 4600 38th Ave. South off Rainier Avenue South and South Genessee Street. This all day workshop will provide valuable information to artists working in all disciplines who are interested in receiving public art commissions. Experienced public artists, public art administrators and artists who have served on selection panels will share information about the application and selection process as well as their past experiences creating public art.

Workshop participants will receive the following information:

  • How to navigate a public art application
  • An introduction to local and state public art funding agencies
  • How to find out about available commissions
  • How to create effective work samples, models and drawings
  • How an application is processed
  • First-hand accounts of public art experiences by artists and administrators.

For more information and registration, call Heather Dwyer at Artist Trust: (206) 467-8734. Introduction to Public Art is presented by the Seattle Arts Commission, Artist Trust, the King County Public Art Commission and the Washington State Arts Commission.
