Sundial At Gasworks Park
Restoration of the Sundial at Gasworks Park was completed in June, 1998, after a nine-month process. Charles Greening and Kim Lazare meticulously power washed and ground down various elements of the concrete relief sculpture, replaced and recreated broken bronze elements and found objects, then sealed their work against the elements. Concurrently, SAC worked with the Parks Department to address the cause of much of the environmental damage-erosion. SAC and Parks worked with landscape architect Richard Haag and the artists to develop a plan to redesign the drainage system, replant the lawn and install irrigation at the top of Kite Hill to prevent erosion which damages the artwork. Today, the Sundial and the top of Kite Hill are fully restored, and both SAC and the Parks Department have renewed their commitment to regular maintenance.
