Welcome to the SCSM Web site The Seattle Commission for Sexual Minorities advise the Mayor, Council and departments about sexual minority issues, recommend policies and legislation, bring the sexual minority communities and the larger Seattle community together through long-ranged projects, and ensure that City departments fairly and equitably address sexual minority concerns as individuals and as a protected class. The Commission for Sexual Minorities consists of 15 representative citizens of Seattle appointed by the Mayor and City Council to serve in an advisory capacity to the Mayor, City Council, Seattle Office for Civil Rights, and other Seattle City departments. Seven commissioners are appointed by the Mayor, and seven appointments are made by the City Council. The Commission appoints the 15th member. Commissioners are appointed to a two year term of office and serve without pay.
The Commission is proud to present its first Quarterly eNewsletter. This issue includes articles on the "Safety Fair" and "Q-Hour" as well as a letter from our Co-Chairs. The Seattle City Council, proclaimed June 2008 as LGB&T Pride month Proclamation The Seattle Office for Civil Rights provides staff and support to the Commission. The Seattle Commission for Sexual Minorities concern over the recent hate crimes occurring on Capitol Hill and other areas of Seattle. |
