Call for Nominations
This spring SMA will elect three members to vacancies on the Board of Directors. Election to the Board is an opportunity for you to contribute your valuable skills and ideas to the mission of the Seattle Management Association and the professional development of your City colleagues.
About the Board:
The SMA Board of Directors is a volunteer body comprised of 9 members elected by the SMA membership. This is a working board, with responsibility for establishing strategic direction and producing programs and events. The board is supported by a part-time Executive Director and each director is elected for a three-year term.
Board Eligibility:
Candidates for board positions must be members of SMA. In addition, the Board will consider the following factors:
- Active membership (attendance/participation in SMA-sponsored events)
- Diversity (race, gender, City department representation)
- Skills and/or background needs of the existing board composition
Board Commitment:
As a Board member, your expected commitment would be:
- One three year term,
- Regular attendance at monthly board meetings (1 hour meeting, usually during lunch hour)
- Attendance at special board meetings or retreats, and
- Service on two standing board committees; including active participation in committee efforts and attendance at committee meetings
Nomination Process:
In compliance with the SMA by laws, a nominating committee has been established for the board election. Candidates may self-nominate, or may be nominated by a member of the committee. The committee will present a slate of recommended candidates to the Board of Directors, from which a ballot will be prepared and issued to the full membership for vote.
Please join us! If you are willing to serve and stand for election, by Monday, April 28th please notify Nomination Committee Chair, Darwyn Anderson at 615-1898 and submit via email to sma@seattle.gov the following items to:
- A statement of interest that includes a paragraph describing your professional background, and
- A digital photograph that SMA can reproduce for the ballot or, if you do not have access to a digital camera, please let us know so that we can arrange to take your photo.
