The Language of Leadership
Thursday, April 20
11:30-1:30
SMT-1650

Michael Shadow presents this edition of Cityscapes, which will focus on ways to frame our ideas and proposals persuasively. Whether we are being interviewed by a reporter, presenting to a community organization or advocating departmental change, framing is a critical communication and leadership tool.

“Policy Follows Money: Why the City Budget Matters”
Friday, May 5, 2006
11:30 am – 1:30 pm
Seattle City Hall, Bertha Knight Landes Room
600 Fifth Avenue, (Between James & Cherry)

Please join SMA on Friday May 5, 2006 for a Cityscapes event with City of Seattle Finance Director Dwight Dively. This event will give you a deeper understanding of how the City budget drives policy development. Producing the City of Seattle budget is much more than an exercise in number crunching. Revenue forecasts provide a starting point and let elected officials know whether they can add programs or have to make cuts. Months of analysis provide answers to the question on the minds of Seattle’s elected officials: “what do I want to do and how am I going to pay for it?”

Mr. Dively’s presentation will not be all theory! You’ll also have the opportunity to grapple with some policy and budget decisions of your own, during a planned group exercise.
