Doug
Schuler,
Author and Co-Founder of Seattle
Community Networks (SCN)
Doug Schuler, as an
activist and past chair of Computer
Professionals for Social Responsibility, has
been writing and speaking about constructive and
destructive uses of computer technology over 15
years.
Doug
is a co-founder of the Seattle Community Network
(SCN) and is currently organizing a symposium
entitled "Shaping the Network Society"
on democratic and community uses of
communication technology which will be held this
May at the University of Washington.
He
has written extensively on democratic and
community-oriented communication technology and
has co-edited several books on social
implications of computing. Doug has presented in
Asia, Europe and North America. He holds a
masters degree in computer science and one in
software engineering.
Doug
is a faculty member at the Evergreen State
College and has most recently launched an
international research + activism network that
now has participants from over 25 countries
