Community Technology

BACKGROUND (Project list is below.)

The Department of Information Technology, in consultation with its citizens advisory board, is focusing it's work  in 2001 and funds from the Citizens Literacy and Access Fund (CLAF) on the projects listed below. Historically, one of the City's Citizens Telecommunications and Technology Advisory Board’s important roles has been to provide a set of recommendations on proposed projects and levels of support for CLAF Projects. The projects recommendations were forwarded to the Chief Technology officer by the Board in April 2001.

At the March 2001 CTTAB meeting we discussed the proposed CLAF projects for 2000-2001. David Keyes presented a synopsis of current projects and needs (See document). At this meeting we agreed that a subcommittee would meet with City staff and come back to the Board with proposed funding levels. Frances Malone, Bob Valiant, Mike Donlin, Bill Covington and Terryl Ross volunteered to serve on this subcommittee. Following the March meeting, Frances, Bob and Mike attended a meeting with Rona Zevin and David Keyes to formulate specifics. The subcommittee's recommendations were forwarded and passed by the full CTTAB in April. The subcommittee and Board decided not to make recommendations for 2002 at that time. It is their intent to do so at a later date so that we can be more responsive to input and progress resulting from this year’s activities. This will also provide an opportunity for new members’ input.
