Columbia City Pedestrian Improvements

The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) is making pedestrian improvements along Rainier Ave South from S Edmunds to S Hudson Streets to make the walking surface safe and smooth. In addition, pedestrian lighting will be installed along the side streets to enhance the walking environment.

This project was requested by the Columbia City Business Association through the Neighborhood Street Fund (NSF). NSF is a community-based program that is administered by the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) and funded by the “Bridging the Gap” transportation levy approved by Seattle voters in November 2006.

Improvements include:

• Installing pedestrian-scale lighting
• Spot sidewalk repair

Construction is scheduled to occur in May depending on weather. Three days before construction begins, the contract will place no parking signs in the area as needed for construction.

• Pedestrian detours
• Parking restrictions
• Moderate to high construction noise and dust for a short period of time
• Typical work hours 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM - Monday thru Friday
