Seattle Freight Mobility Advisory Committee
About the Seattle Freight Mobility Advisory Committee
The City of Seattle established the Freight Mobility Advisory Committee in September 2002 to advise elected officials, SDOT and other agencies on measures to improve freight mobility and safety in Seattle.
SDOT looks to the citywide Freight Committee to represent the various modes of transportation (truck, rail and marine) for the movement of goods and services and to accomplish the following purposes:
The Committee is a public/private partnership with Seattle freight community stakeholders from the Ballard/Interbay/Northend Manufacturing Industrial Center (BINMIC) and the Duwamish Manufacturing Industrial Center. The current Committee Co-Chair is Peter Whitehead (Nelson Trucking). It is currently composed of seven Seattle area freight operators.
Committee members are appointed by the Director of the Seattle Department of Transportation. The SDOT Director has designated representatives from the respective set of freight business sectors (representative freight industry personnel from the truck, marine and rail businesses) located in both the Duwamish and BINMIC areas to ensure that a broad spectrum of freight interests serve on the Committee. These individuals represent businesses involved in freight operations.
Meetings are open to the public and are generally held 8:00-9:30 AM on the third Tuesday of every month. Monthly Committee meeting locations are scheduled on a rotating basis in the respective north and south industrial centers.
