SDOT Director Grace Crunican - Biography
- Mayor Nickels appointed Grace as the Director of the Seattle Department of Transportation in January 2002. Major emphasis has been to meet the Mayor's goal to "get Seattle moving" and to shape the City's transportation so that it does so in a sustainable manner.
- Prior to moving to Seattle, Grace served as the director of the Oregon Department of Transportation for five years.
- From 1993 to 1996 she served as a Deputy administrator of the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).
- Before joining the FTA, Grace led the Surface Transportation Policy Project, a non-profit coalition dedicated to implementing the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (ISTEA).
- Grace has previous local experience working for Portland's Transportation Office as its capital program manager and deputy director.
- Her first transportation appointment was to the Presidential Management Internship Program in 1979 for the U.S. Department of Transportation. Following this appointment she served as a professional staff analyst for the U.S. Senate Transportation Appropriations Committee.
- She is a northwest native and holds a Bachelor's Degree from Gonzaga University and a Master's in Business Administration from Willamette University.
