Property Owners Whose Property Abuts the Trail Corridor
If you have property with frontage along the City Light corridor that currently is not delineated by fencing or fully screened by existing vegetation, you may be eligible for plants or chain-link fencing provided by the project. (Please note that we will not replace existing fencing or remove existing vegetation to make space for new plantings).
The choice of plants are as follows:
Low (up to 4' ht) evergreen shrubs
White flowered Rockrose --Cistus hybridus
Purple-flowered Rockrose-- Cistus purpureus
Salal -- Gaultheria shallon*
Tall (4-8' ht) evergreen shrubs
Strawberry Tree --Arbutus unedo*
Evergreen Huckleberry-- Vaccinium ovatum*
Western Rhododendron - Rhododendron macrophyllum*
Photinea-- Photinea fraseri
Low (up to 4') deciduous shrubs
Hybrid Rugosa Rose -- Rugosa rose 'Pavement Series'
Dwarf Red-twig Dogwood-- Cornus kelseyii
Hybrid Red-twig Dogwood -- Cornus stolonifera 'Isanti'*
Tall (4-8' ht) deciduous shrubs
Red Flowering Currant--Ribes sanguinium*
Red Twig Dogwood-- Cornus stolonifera*
Hazelnut --Corylus cornuta*
Vine Maple -- Acer circinatum*
For more information about the plants, please visit SPU's Plant Identification Guide.
Plant distribution will not take place until the spring of 2006. This will leave eligible property owners ample time to consider their options and to review the palette of plant choices we plan to offer. Property owners with frontage identified as eligible for treatment should have received an update letter providing specific information about plant selection and distribution, as well as the option for fencing.
