September 15, 2009
There had been a two week shutdown of major work activity on Marion Street
from the end of August until late last week.
Over the next two to three weeks construction crews will work mostly night
shifts, but also day shifts, repairing the roadway base to the asphalt
section of the street, adjusting utilities, grinding and removing the old
asphalt surface, overlaying a new asphalt surface (nigh time work), and
installing temporary and permanent pavement markings. Expect traffic to be
reduced to one lane on Marion Street during non-peak day time hours and
during night time work.

The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) is making improvements to several arterials in Downtown Seattle in 2009. The projects are funded by the “Bridging the Gap” transportation levy approved by Seattle voters in November 2006.
SDOT is planning to make improvements to Marion Street, between Western Avenue and Sixth Avenue, starting in late July or early August 2009. The project is expected to be completed by early October 2009.
Project Description
The project will include new concrete and asphalt pavement, upgraded curb ramps, and some areas of replaced sidewalk.
Originally scheduled for 2010 construction, this project was accelerated as part of the Mayor's economic stimulus package, called "Seattle Jobs Forward", to create jobs and revive the local economy. The "Seattle Jobs Forward" is a package of immediate local action to create direct jobs and boost Seattle’s economy over the next two years.
