Pedestrian Program

Walking is the basic form of transportation and one that most people rely on every day.

The Seattle Department of Transportation's (SDOT) Pedestrian Program seeks to improve pedestrian safety and to encourage more walking by creating an environment where pedestrians can walk safely and comfortably.

These efforts have contributed to Seattle's nationally recognized reputation as a pedestrian-friendly city.

Among the things we do:

• Install sidewalks, curb ramps, and marked crosswalks
• Install and maintain pedestrian and school crossing signs
• Construct curb bulbs and crossing islands at pedestrian crossing locations
