Public Comment Period Extended to June 30th
The public comment period for the SE Transportation Study Draft Report has been extended until midnight June 30, 2008 to better allow for a full and comprehensive community review of this key document and road-map to the transportation future for SE Seattle. SETS Draft Report Released on May 9th
On Friday, May 9th, SDOT released for public review the draft final report for the Southeast Transportation Study. The draft report is a culmination of several years of hard work and provides a comprehensive assessment and set of recommendations for improving transportation in Southeast Seattle for the next several decades.
Printed copies of the draft report are available throughout the comment period at the following locations:

Background
The Southeast Transportation Study (SETS) builds on existing planning to provide a comprehensive, transportation plan for the area. It will serve as a blueprint for financing and programming transportation improvements in Southeast Seattle over the next two decades.
In 2004, ground breaking occurred for the initial route and stations for Seattle's first light rail system marking a major milestone for Seattle as well as an unprecedented investment in public transportation dollars in Southeast neighborhoods.
To maximize the light rail investment and support the growth and change in Southeast neighborhoods, the City of Seattle is working together with the Southeast community through Mayor Nickel's Southeast Action Agenda. Public investment in Southeast Seattle includes major redevelopment of the Seattle Housing Authority's NewHolly and Rainier Vista communities as well as millions of dollars in City resources for local projects and programs. Together, these efforts create a rare opportunity to help shape the future of this vibrant, diverse area.
The study area is bound by the City limits to the south, Interstate 90 to the north, Interstate 5 to the west, and Lake Washington to the east. Also included is the area bounded by S. Dearborn Street, Davis Place SE and Interstate 90.
The study will:
- Study the impacts of travel to, from, and through the study area and immediate surroundings
- Evaluate and prioritize recommended improvements, and
- Develop a funding strategy to implement that top priorities.
The study will guide the City, public agencies and community groups as they build projects now and implement future improvements.
The study's goals are to:
- Improve mobility and safety for the diverse needs of Southeast Seattle.
- Improve the transportation network with a particular focus on connections to the new light rail system.
- Support the growth to enhance neighborhood livability.
- Make cost effective investments to maintain existing roads and build on other existing efforts.
- Prioritize transportation improvements that support the City's Comprehensive Plan as well as the strategies and actions defined in the Seattle Transportation Strategic Plan Update.
Get Involved
Our goal is to incorporate representatives from the large geographic area and populations that may not be traditionally involved such as senior citizens, non-English speaking, people of color, persons with disabilities, and immigrant groups. The community advisory body to the study is the Core Community Team (CCT). Members of the public are welcome to attend CCT meetings. The project team can also give presentations to community groups.
