SDOT is updating the University Area Transportation Study. The update is in response to changes in major projects such as Sound Transit's North Link light rail, improved planning resources, and the desire for a better implementation strategy. Please visit the University Area Transportation Action Strategy web page to learn more.

What is the UATS?
The University Area Transportation Study (UATS) will build on existing planning to provide a comprehensive, multimodal transportation plan for the area, and will serve as a blueprint for financing and programming improvements in the University area over the next decade. The focus of this study is to integrate, and fill in the gaps between, existing planning and development activity, including:
The University Community Urban Center (UCUC) Neighborhood Plan, adopted 1998;
The University of Washington Master Plan, under development in 2001;
The Trans-Lake Washington Study, underway in 2001;
The Sound Transit Link light rail plan, and King County Metro bus planning;
A two-year "pipeline" of private development in the area of more than 750 housing units and 550,000 square feet of commercial and retail space; and several major transportation projects, including reconstruction of NE 50th Street and 11th Avenue NE replacement of signal controllers and optimization of signals throughout the area, and reconstruction of NE 65th Street and 35th Avenue NE.
