The South Lake Union Streetcar: Construction Guide January 2007
The Seattle Streetcar Monthly Construction Guide previews upcoming construction activities for the South Lake Union Streetcar Project. The construction guide provides general information about the type and duration of work and traffic control plans. During construction the Project team will make every effort to minimize construction impacts to local businesses and residents.

In January 2007, the Seattle Streetcar Team will continue work on Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) water supply and drainage facilities, complete excavation activities at the Streetcar maintenance facility and approach completion of the streetcar trackway along Fairview Avenue North . Trackway will also be installed at three high traffic intersections. The contractor plans to achieve substantial completion of Seattle City Light (SCL) Downtown Network power distribution infrastructure. The new facilities eliminate conflicts between the Streetcar trackway and existing SCL infrastructure.
TRACK CONSTRUCTION Excavate, construct rail, and pour track slab. This work features a shallow trackway excavation and installation of rail. Construction will typically occur during normal business hours and will not require road closures. Complete installation of streetcar rail along Fairview Avenue North .
Complete Track Installation on Mercer Street at the Terry Avenue and Westlake Avenue Intersections.
Start Track Installation at the intersection of Valley Street and Westlake Avenue
TERRY AVENUE ADVANCE UTILITY WORK Excavate, shore, Install track drain, upgrade water services and backfill. This work will require deep excavation (10 to 25 feet deep).
WESTLAKE AVENUE UTILITY WORK Excavate, shore, set conduit, and backfill approximately a 3’ wide trench. This work will require deep excavation (12 to 18 feet deep).
Complete installation of a 12” waterline on Westlake Avenue between Denny Street and Thomas Street . Excavate, set and test 12’ waterline, and backfill approximately a 3’ wide and 4’ deep trench. Transfer and abandon 8-10 water services.
Start work to install track drain leads between Denny Street and Mercer Street . Excavate, shore, install track drains and back fill. This work requires deep excavation(10 – 20 feet deep).
MAINTENANCE FACILITY Complete site excavation, start installing foundation and concrete floor slab.
