Street Use Street Improvement Permit
SDOT to Temporarily Extend 6 week Street Improvement Plan Review Turnaround to 8 weeks
Due to an increased number of Street Improvement permit applications and a shortage of resources, formal circulation and design guidance review cycles which are currently scheduled for completion after July 15, 2008, may experience delays of up to 2 weeks.
Effective immediately, all new Street Improvement permit applications will be scheduled for an 8 week turnaround. As soon as we are able to do so, we will return to our 6 week turnaround cycle.
Whenever development occurs under the Department of Planning and Development
(DPD) land use code there may be requirements for improvements in the right-of-way.
The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) has design criteria that these
improvements must meet. The Street Use Street Improvement Permits (SIP) section
is the point of contact to assist you with these improvements. SIP provides project
management and facilitates approval for private projects from single family residence
to large scale and city interdepartmental projects for SDOT.
The SIP section maintains an Applicant Service Center at DPD. Prior to the start
of any project it is strongly recommended to discuss your project with one of
the plan analysts. The analyst discusses the scope of the project and can provide
advice about project requirements.
SDOT and DPD have responded to the Mayor’s Executive Order to align the
permitting process for private development at DPD and right-of-way development
at SDOT. After a multi-year process with input from community stakeholders and
City staff, we will soon be aligning our individual permitting processes at key
points. Read the details.
