West Thomas Street Overpass
Project Update - April 24, 2009
There have been several changes in direction for this project over the last two years, primarily due to shortages in overall construction funding.
Most recently, the project design team was given direction to move forward with producing the final design documents, plans and specifications, and obtaining the necessary environmental permits and right-of-way for this project to move forward with construction. At this time all of the necessary funding to construct the pedestrian bridge has not been secured yet. Even with the approval of the recent Parks Levy voted on November 2008 providing additional funds for this project, it is still underfunded; SDOT is pro-actively seeking additional funding sources with hopes of obtaining the remaining construction funds before the design phase is complete.
It is anticipated that final design will be completed by the end of this year. The permitting process and the different agency reviews may extend the design phase to early 2010.
